Sensitive Issue, Our Best Man Went To Jail When We Were On Our Honeymoon. Advise?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , ,

My new husband and I just got back from our honeymoon a few days ago. Naturally the next day he started calling his best friend who was also our best man, and couldn’t get a hold of him. So he called another one of our groomsmen, who revealed that our best man went to jail while we were on our honeymoon, and that he was sentenced to 6 month in some low security prison ONE MONTH BEFORE OUR WEDDING, but the judge let his serve it after our wedding. We had absolutely no idea about it and are so puzzled and confused. My husband’s feelings are also hurt, since it is his best friend, someone who he knew from the time they were babies, and 3 people around us knew what was going on, but not my husband… We understand how embarrassed he must have felt, how depressed he must be, but we can’t even go and see him because we are not on his approved visitor list :(
We still don’t know all the details besides some short article that he found on line, he pretty much helped someone launder some money from the bank he worked at, because that person was blackmailing him about something stupid! Uhhh
anyways, i am not mad at him but my husband is. He’s very hurt that his best friend doesn’t even care enough to let him visit him in jail.

Is Asking For A Daily Refund Of The Rent Amount Reasonable? Please Advise?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

I am a college student in Pennsylvania and live in NJ. At the end of last semester myself and my housemates signed a lease to rent one side of a two family home outside of Philadelphia, the lease states that the lease starts on June 15th 2011. Considering my housemates and I are all busy with work and everything else no one attempted to contact the landlord to move into the home until Monday July 11th. Several phone calls were made and a voice mail was left. On Tuesday, again, we attempted to contact the landlord regarding picking up keys and he never answered his phone. Wednesday passed and no one called, Thursday we attempted calling again and left another set of voice mails. On Friday numerous attempts to reach him were made to no avail. Friday evening at about 5pm the landlord called one of my housemates and informed him “I am on my way down the shore, I just got your voice mails, sorry I will not be around to deliver you guys the keys, but next weekend I will be around for sure so plan for that.” So with that we all kind of took it as bad timing and brushed it off. The tenants in the other side of this two family home are very close friends of ours and after informing them that we would not be there this weekend because we can’t get the keys he informed us that the back sliding glass door of the home was unlocked and could be opened. Thinking this was a lucky mishap we called the landlord and informed him of this and then informed us that the house was not ready and that there were currently contractors in the home doing repair work and it would be completed before the following weekend. The following day, Saturday July 16th, while on the phone with the friends who live in the other side of the two family home we were told that the back door was boarded up and blocked off as to prevent anyone from seeing in or entering. In the following days we began to feel that we were being cheated by the landlord and contacted an family friend who is an attorney in PA. He drafted a letter requesting a daily refund of the rent from June 15th until when the keys were handed to us. The landlord was clearly lying about being on his way to the beach and simply knew the house wasn’t ready because after learning that the back door was open on Saturday he was able to board it up and secure it so we couldn’t get in. This week we tried contacting him to explain to him how we feel and request the refund without having the attorneys letter sent however he hasn’t answered phone calls and voice mails left on Mon, Wed and Thurs and it is now Friday morning and we have not heard from him.
What are your thoughts on the matter? What can we do as to have the rent that we are owed returned to us but also not step on his toes on start off a 1-year lease on a sour note. Everyone knows living in a rented house in which the landlord doesn’t like you can be a nightmare. I have mixed feelings about just sending the letter and not attempting to contact him until he calls us back however I also feel that if he does call us after we mail the letter and agrees to refund our money (which seems highly unlikely after learning of the mans character).
What do you think we should do? What do we legally have the right to do? Advise

Need Advise About Wedding Ceremony & Reception?

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

I am getting married by a JOP and having our parents there, but my mother is paying for everything and doesn’t want to spend money on a reception in Febuary because the weather could be bad and people may not be able to attend, and we are getting married on a wednesday. We changed our origonal date because I was afraid of overshadowing a good friends wedding and I suggested this new date to my fiancee and he liked it. He really doesn’t care about any planning stuff so I really want to make this work. My mother and I compromised by having a reception about a month later, which is not uncommon for destination weddings to do. I want my family to understand that I want them to be there so that we can all celebrate this occasion together as a family and not be insulted that we did not invite them on the actual date. I want to include some ideas with the ceremony in the reception, and have a reception that isn’t as traditional. Ceremony ideas like having a sand ceremony set up/display, or candle ceremony display. And toning down a wedding reception by having a formal dinner with a wedding cake and dancing, but not all of the other traditions like tossing bouquet, introduction of bridal party, ect. I need some good feedback about how I can make this work, and make everyone happy.

Quick and Easy: Online Free Wedding Planning Advise!

There comes a time in a person’s life when he or she leaves aside all the parties and hangovers, all those city nights spent wandering around doing nothing just for fun and when the “gang” claims merely the second or third place in one’s heart. It’s that time when someone feels the need to love and caress, to find their destined half and to feel needed in return, to find the safety of a home and a family. And, of course, what could come more natural in times like those than that special covenant between a man and a woman, that special moment and of course, any man’s worst fear….a wedding! And to spare you from all that wasted time running around trying to make everything perfect, a new way to do it all has come up: free wedding planning advise, online!

The wedding is that ceremony which celebrates the union between a man and a woman, a moment of great happiness and optimism, when life finally doesn’t seem such a lonely place anymore. The wedding customs vary, sometimes greatly between cultures, from the spiritual and civil meaning of the event itself to the way both the groom and the bride and everybody around is dressed, how the procession manifests (music, poetry, prayers) and so on.

In modern society, many people turn to wedding planning advise, to ease and speed things up, but we’ll get back to that later. For now, an interesting fact has captured our attention: a part of the origins of the symbolism of wedding dates back from past centuries, from the times of clans and knights and it’s almost like a tale, which went like this: The young head of a clan gathered his best or most trusted friends (from which comes the custom for a bloke to have his best man besides him at the altar…) and went on a little quest to kidnap the rival clan’s girl he desired. He brought her to his village and used a rope to tie her up, so she wouldn’t run away (and that’s how the wedding ring custom came along). And, like any tale ends, the two youngsters were to spend their lives together. Of course, those days they didn’t have to worry so much about how the napkins would match the satin ribbons on the chairs. In fact you don’t have to do it either if you use the wedding planning advise given by professional websites like eventsbyoccasion.com.
