Wedding Catering Question?

I’m planning on getting married and want to keep costs to an absolute minimum. I have an idea for the reception food which is jacket potatoes for everyone with some filling options and salad. Then bread for people to make their own sandwiches if they don’t like jacket potatoes. Do you think this is a good idea? Is it worth trying to arrange this ourselves or should we definately use a caterer? Would a caterer do this or are they fixed as far as the options they already offer? What do you think this would cost for about 100 people?
