Destination Wedding….baker Canceled Less Then 2 Months For The Wedding? Now What?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , ,

We are having a destination wedding. I have been doing everything myself when it comes to calling & planning. We could not afford a hotel to do it or a wedding planner. I have been done planning since mind June til….my baker called & told me she was leaving her husband & had already moved out. She would be unable to do my cake. (Her & I have become pretty good friends since I started talking to her 8 months ago so I’m not upset…but!)
I’m not sure what to do, I called 6 places since then. They are either booked already, double our budget or do not deliver to the area of the wedding.
The 1 lady I talked to sounded great about doing our cake. We started planning….. it took 3 days for her to email me pretty much nothing (said she was going to send photos & cake favors etc) So I emailed her back a ton of info about our cake. She has not emailed back in 4 days. I called her shoppe 3 times & got no answer left a message twice. Its not been almost 2 weeks. We have talked once, just that first day. Should I give up?
Also any ideas on dressing up a sheet cake for a wedding? (about 16 guest & bride & groom)
I thought about calling the local grocery store to see what they could do for me.

How Do Receptions Work At Destination Weddings?

I do not see reception costs listed for all-inclusive resort weddings (e.g. Sandals). They may say “cocktail reception for bride & groom” or “bride & groom and 2 others.” How do you plan a reception at a destination?

The Perfect Destination Wedding Would Be………?

My fiance and I are debating having a wedding ceremony close to our home in Central Florida or a fabulous destination that’s just the two of us and super romantic. He mentioned to me the other day about how awesome he thought it would be to go to Lake Titicaca which is located on the border of Bolivia and Peru. He says how it would be romantic just the two of us, and then being able to say that we got married at the world’s highest lake. (It’s on top of a mountain) I like the idea of doing something unique and special, but I think that I would like to find somewhere a little less “primitive.” Any suggestions, for one of a kind/magical/just the two of us wedding locations?

Are Any Of You Brides Having A Destination Wedding?

I’m getting married in a rainforest in Costa Rica, and it’s so scary booking services.. I’m so terrified that our photographer or officiant won’t even show up because I’ve never even met them!
I did not get a wedding planner because I did not like any of the wedding packages I saw, and everything was way overpriced.
I’m eloping, so I can’t imagine the kind of stress that women with a lot of guests go through.
Is anyone else going through this? Do you have any advice for me?

Rsvp Timing For A Destination Wedding?

I am organizing a destination wedding in Las Vegas. We are tying the knot in the desert and holding our reception at the MGM Grand. I have just ordered, or should say, I am in the process of ordering my invites.
Considering I am inviting guests from the UK, Canada and New Zealand, I feel its common courtesy to give them as much notice as possible so they can budget to attend the event. On the other hand I need to know how many people are planning to make it as soon as possible for my reception venue. It’s a busy wedding season there and I don’t want to miss out on a good venue at the MGM.
How long should I give for people to RSVP considering the invites will be completed by May. I was thinking June 1st…. what are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Destination Wedding, Too Close To A Family Wedding?

Tagged Under : , , ,

I have been trying to get my boyfriend to propose to me for over a year and he finally did. (YAY!)
Anyway, we have a VERY limited budget and both agreed that our best option to get more bang for our buck is to have a destination wedding. (We were recently to Jamaica and fell in love with it.)
We wanted to do it within the next year, probably February-ish as that is the Dry season in Jamaica and we would be less likely to be rained out.
Anyway, His cousin got engaged over Christmas and they are having a destination wedding in Mexico in November. What I’m trying to get at is am I being unrealistic or rude by planning a destination wedding as well? I don’t want to steal anyone’s thunder, but I also don’t want to wait another two years before we get married.

Need Advice Regarding Destination Wedding.?

Obviously getting married is a big deal, but my fiance and I don’t want to have a big wedding. However, our families are so well known that it will offend pretty much everyone if we have a small wedding. His family is much wealthier than mine and could definitely afford to go to St Lucia for the wedding. However, they are also more likely to stay on the island the entire time we’re on our honeymoon. Also, my family can not likely afford to go. Would it be an acceptable idea to go to St Lucia by ourselves and get married and have it recorded or broadcast live? A wedding is just not something either of us want to plan.
