Great weddings can cost a small fortune, but for the couple with a tight budget, a fabulous wedding can still be planned without straining the finances. There are many elements that must be taken into account when starting to plan a wedding and it is very important not to overlook anything so that you won’t be forced at the last minute to fork out a huge amount of money to pay for wedding favors, for example.

Wedding favors are small tokens of appreciation that the bride and groom  give to the guests as a token of thanks for joining them on their special day. This tradition dates back to the 13th century when brides gave small boxes of sugar cubes to the female guests who attended her wedding. Wedding favors can range from small ceramic dishes, photo frames to a small assortment of fine chocolates. Try to select wedding favors that are inexpensive, yet elegant. You can even choose to make your own wedding favors if you wish, which could include potpourri mixes or specially decorated tea light holders.

Bridal supplies can be purchase quite easily online. There are many companies who specialize in wedding supplies of all kinds ranging from decorations, place settings, centerpieces, and invitations. If you choose to use the internet to find things for your wedding, then do take the time to shop around a bit as the prices vary greatly as does the assortment. Some bridal supply stores offer discounted shipping if you order multiple items, so be sure to take advantage of such offers.

A fun and exciting part of the entire wedding planning process is planning a great bridal shower.  This is a very special event for the bride-to-be and her guests so you want to make it great fun! Bridal shower games make the event lively, entertaining and loads of great fun. Some of the simplest and least expensive games are actually the most fun. All you need to do is provide everyone at the shower with a pencil and paper and have a few small prizes on hand for the winners. You can play a bridal trivia game wherein you ask the guests various questions about the up-coming wedding such as which flowers the bride has chosen, what is the bride’s favorite movie, etc. When the question asking is over, you simply compare notes as a group and the prize is awarded to the person who answered the most questions correctly.

Social Media and Wedding Planning Ideas

Tagged Under : , , , ,

As I discussed in my last blog, the web is creating smaller and smaller worlds via social media and event planning companies. I met Noa Gafni of Webutantes by an article someone mentioned on either Twitter or Linkedin. I can’t remember it’s getting so confusing. Anyway, the article was about wedding planning ideas.

In particular, this article was a mini- wedding planning guide and provided wedding planning ideas and resources. What caught my eye though was the resource discussion because they were listed for people who are on a budget and cannot afford wedding coordinators.

I then used my acquired social media skills and tracked Noa down for the pitch. She loved the idea of budgets but instead of adding to the already mentioned wedding planning ideas she posted, she requested an article on how to throw a cocktail party on a budget. That topic was right up my alley and I sent her information that included advice and links for invitations, music and food. I even included a menu that was easy-to-make. Many of the helpful tips I used in the article are based upon my experience working for other event planning companies as well as my own.

A funny note here, I thought my social media skills were pretty up-to-date but paled in comparison to Noa’s. She edited my article and listed links to music and invitation websites that were more current. Then again, I am still learning this medium; she is well-versed and experienced in social media.

The menu I provided her also got me to venture out beyond my known sources since she requested recipes from various sites. I provided her with great easy-to-make appetizers such as the red-salmon dip, mushroom rolls, sun dried tomato and olive tapenade bruschetta, but also gave her some new recipes too. The honey lemon chicken skewers with vegetables and the mini-peppermint cheesecakes with chocolate chips were two new recipes I researched for her blog. What I liked about these two hors d’oeuvres were that they fit right into my mantra – make it simple, fast and delicious.

You can view the full article and get the recipes on Noa’s blog. Again, it all comes down to social media and event planning companies and how we are all connected via the web. The blog that acts as a mini- wedding planning guide for those brides searching for wedding planning ideas can also be found posted on the September 8, 2009 Webutantes blog.

Until next time, remember to have fun and be a guest at your own event!

Wedding Planning can seem downright scary. There is so much to do, and so many people to hire. How do you make it easier? Where do you start? Start where you always do, at the beginning.

Announce The Engagement.

Announcing your engagement is pretty basic, once you get engaged it is time to tell everyone you know! This can be a pretty fun part of your engagement, announcing your future commitment and showing off your ring to all your friends and family. There are many ways you can announce your engagement. You can send out engagement announcements, have an engagement party or even use more modern forms of communication like telling the world of your upcoming nuptials on social networking sites.

Set The Date.

Being engaged is fabulous, but there is a difference between telling people you are getting married and telling them you are getting married on April 15, 2012. Having a date makes it feel less abstract and more real. Setting the date of your wedding is one of the most important decisions to make in the beginning of the engagement. So how do you choose your date? There are many ways. Sometimes people already know when they want to get married, they have the date picked out based on a holiday wedding, a tradition, or a date that means something special to the couple.

However, if you do not know that date you are getting married and there are no special dates or holidays that you want to get married on it is time to decide when you do want to get married. Narrow down your choices. Decide on the time of the year, the season or the month and go from there. Once you have decieded the season or month you want to be married in you can take a closer look at the calender and eliminate all dates you want to avoid. These would include holidays you don’t want to be married on, birthdays and anniversaries of potential guests as well as any days that bring negative feelings to you, your fiancé or your families.

Determine Your Budget.

Once you announced your engagement and set the date you need to determine how much money you have for the rest of the wedding. This may be one of the least pleasant things you need to do while planning your wedding but it is pertinent to understand how much money you have to spend so you can plan the perfect wedding with the least amount of snags as possible.

Choose Your Ceremony Site and Your Reception Site

The ceremony site is important. This is where you walk down the aisle and get married to your fiancé in front of all your family and friends. There are so many choices of places to hold the ceremony at. You can get married in a church, an outdoor garden or another outside location, a restaurant, a hotel or a private home. What you choose will affect the feel of your wedding. Each possible ceremony site would affect your wedding. When choosing where you will have your ceremony think about what kind of wedding you want if you want something classic, romantic, modern or something else entirely. When choosing your ceremony site think about how you want it to be decorated and determine if this is easily done, do this before signing any contracts.

Choosing the reception site is similair to choosing your ceremony site. Your wedding reception locale should really add to the theme of your wedding, the one you already set at the ceremony site. Some ceremony locations can double as reception locations such as hotels and restaurants, where as others such as churches and other places of worship are usually only for the ceremony.

Planning your wedding may seem daunting at first, but once you become organized and start thinking about what you have to do it really isn’t that hard. Just remember the basics. Keep the planning simple, focus on what needs to be done but try not to overstress and get organized. Make lists, check them off. Read and research online and off about weddings, wedding planning and talk to whoever you can about their own weddings and experiences.

Wedding Planning & Wedding Ideas 101

Tagged Under : , ,

In recent years we have seen resurgence in the popularity of the traditional wedding style. Most couples, however, are not holding to the rigid structure of the past but are incorporating the best of the contemporary styles to reflect their own lifestyles and personalities.

Like every bride, you have a familiarity with wedding planning and an idea of what you want your own to be like. But how do you translate your knowledge of weddings into a workable plan? How do you utilize your time effectively? These are the key questions you need to keep in mind when searching for wedding ideas that guide you in planning the wedding of your dreams.

Wedding Planning

There is more to wedding planning than collecting something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue – although this wedding tradition could be a brides best first step in organization. Just keep in mind that articles that you read are meant to be resources for planning your wedding; and by getting some expert advice, you and your fiancée will succeed in accomplishing each detail. In order to help with any wedding ideas you may be considering right now, we suggest the following steps:

1.) Take a few minutes to write down what your goals are for the wedding.

2.) Try to follow a wedding planning checklist and make note of the items that are appropriate for your wedding. Then incorporate these items into your calendar.

3.) Use wedding planning forms that help you stay on track with organizing the important details.

Wedding Ideas

Planning a Michigan wedding is often the first opportunity a bridal couple has to work together on a project. It offers an invaluable learning experience, one that will help in the adjustmental process once you are married. You may enlist family members and friends to help in the planning process. People usually feel honored when asked for assistance. For those who may be low on funds, it offers them an opportunity to give a gift of time and service.

Above all, remember not to allow any wedding ideas to overshadow you and your fiancés relationship. Nurturing this relationship now is vitally important to your future happiness. We highly recommend that you, as a couple, either participate in premarital counseling or attend a marriage preparation class (many churches, synagogues, and family counseling centers provide these services). No one wants to think their marriage will end in divorce, and by preparing in this way, you will lessen the probability of it happening to you.

If you feel divorce can be a “way out,” then maybe you are not ready for marriage. More than anything else, a high level of commitment is the necessary ingredient in a successful marriage – and that commitment is to endure the bad times as well as the good.

Remember to set aside time before the wedding to become better acquainted with the parents of the one you love; without them, this wouldn’t be happening!

Finally, do not take yourself of the wedding planning to seriously. Instead, take plenty of time to relax, to enjoy each other, and to grow in love!
