I want to start my own wedding planning business but I don’t have any experience working for a coordinator because nobody in my area has that type of business. (I’d be the first!) Any suggestions on how to get me going without an education or hand on training? I know alot through my own interests, friends that have gotten married, and all of the literature I’ve read on the industry of weddings.

I have been engaged since December and am excited to start the wedding planning. I know that bedding is seasonal, but can I start registering for things now. We are having an engagement party in October. Should we have some stuff by then?

Can anyone recommend good books and/or trade publications for me? Not looking for wedding planning books, looking for how to books. Thanks.

Here are the first three items that you must cross off your wedding planning checklist before you can accomplish anything else.

Step 1: Determine Your Budget

You don’t need to have the list finalized just yet, but you’ll need an estimate from both sides of the family (and yourselves) right away to avert countless planning headaches down the road.  Once you’ve talked with all financially contributing parties to determine your total wedding budget, you can estimate how many people you can afford to invite to the affair.

I’ve just recently gotten engaged and now need to start planning everything and I’m lost on where to start or even what my overall budget could be. I want a larger, more formal wedding, but I don’t want to spend tons of money. I live in Iowa so there isn’t many grand places to have a reception or get married at. Any ideas?

I have the drive to do it, and I already have a general idea of how to start and what works best for me, but I need to know are there tools I need to buy, like color cards, worksheets, planners, that kind of thing.
