Should I Go Along With Family Traditions On Wedding Dresses Or Pick My Own Anyway?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , ,

I’m planning my wedding and I’m having trouble with my wedding dress. I’ve seen a dress I like, it is blush coloured, one shoulder, that is fitted and is a fishtail style.
My fiance’s family has traditions when it comes to weddings and wedding dress. Tradition has already dictated which church I’m getting married in but to be fair, I don’t think I would have picked anywhere else to get married as it means a lot to my fiance anyway.
When it comes to the wedding dress, there are certain guidelines when it comes to wedding dresses that have been followed for the last 22 family weddings, they have been set in place by my fiance’s great grandmother. They have been updated a couple times by his grandmother. These guidelines are:
Shoulders must be covered
Not straps
Must be white or ivory
No cleavage
Not tight.
Classic not modern – fish tail comes under this.
Must be floor length
No excess lace or beading
No shiny fabric
A second, different dress must be worn for the evening.
Should I follow them or go with the dress that I like?

What Is Everything To Know About South Africa Wedding Traditions And Customs?

Tagged Under : , , , , , , , ,

Im doing a project of South African wedding traditions, and search engines are not much help!
I need to know about the engagement, and what family (bride or grooms) pays for what. Any other details!
Also about the wedding and ceremony itself. like, where is it held, and do they practice polygamy or monogamy? Special preparations that are made for the bride(bathing, hair, clothes, make-up)
I also need information of the honeymoon, if thats what people in South Africa call them. I cannot find ANYTHING on this topic. Do they go anywhere special, and if so, who pays for it? About how long does it last, and anything else interesting.
PLEASE HELP! Any information is useful :D or websites!
Thanks (:

Different Family Traditions Regarding Baby Showers…?

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

For my baby shower, I’m having only one with both my husband’s family and mine. The only problem is that my family is more traditional and typically does women-only, while my husband’s family tends to do co-ed showers. I’m leaning toward co-ed myself because I liked getting the men involved, too. So often the men are left out of the fun when they want to be a part of it. Plus, I really want my husband to be there and he seems to really want to be there. I’m tempted to invite only women from my family and to invite both men and women from my husband’s family, but it seems rude not to invite the men in my family and at the same time, I’m not sure if they’d be comfortable with that. If I invited both men and women from both sides, given my large extended family, there would be nearly as many people as at our wedding! Expense-wise, this would get costly and I don’t want the person hosting to go broke planning my baby shower. Also, I had considered two separate showers, but am afraid that I’ll offend someone or seem greedy if I do. Help!

Military Related Wedding Ideas. Decorations, Traditions…..?

Tagged Under : , , , , ,

I am getting married in September of this year. Its going to be an outdoor wedding with a vintage-ish kind of feel. I have pretty much got most of the details figured out except that I need a few more ideas. My fiance and I are both Military Police in the Army and I really wanted to try and find some cute and classy ways to represent our military backround in our wedding. I am using custom printed ID Tag (dog tags) for the favor tags and I will most likely do the Army garter thing…… and.. those are my big ideas. I need more! Any suggestions?

So me and my boyfriend just got engaged recently and will probably get married within the next two years. I was wondering is it offensive to have the groom throw the bride’s garter at a pentecostal wedding??

British Wedding Traditions?

Due to her health concerns I have taken over the majority of my sister’s wedding planning. Her husband is not all that helpful in the wedding department (are the ever?!). Anyhow he is from the UK and most of his family will be coming from London to Boston for the wedding.
Is there anything specific I should know about the reception that I can begin to plan and present to them as options? Our whole family is Italian so I have never been to a family wedding that didn’t have toasts before dinner and other things that I have seen differ at friend’s weddings.
What should I take into account? I just need to get as much done for her as possible now
