   Uillean pipes aren’t exactly ideal for marching behind the bride as she makes her way to the groom. And as *traditionally* most weddings were done outside, you wouldn’t really hear them too well. I wouldn’t say that I’m “ga ga” over details, it’s just that I know something that you apparently don’t. What ever the “present reality” in Ireland is at the moment is not relevant, as I’m more concerned with Gaelic culture than “modern Irish culture.”

   I AM a trad musician – I am Irish – I am telling you that the uillean pipes are the ones which are used in Irish social occassions- such as weddings. I know because i play at weddings, in Ireland ,and am paid for it ! However , I just saw your homepage and all is very clear to me now ! Seems that you are a removed generation of irish american. So you are all ga ga on the finer and more distant details – Im delighted for you that you are a history fanatic – but its not the present reality !

   This reply is even more disturbing than your first post. You first stated that “bagpipes aren’t even Irish.” Now that I corrected you, you now say that going back a few hundred years in Irish history isn’t relative to something being Irish. You do realize there was an Irish history before the famine and migrations, don’t you? Uillean pipes only came around to fill the musical vacuum after the collapse of the Gaelic culture in Ireland.

   listen my friend – im sorry you didn’t like my reply – but the fact remains – bagpipes are not traditional irish – if you are referring to the “warpipes” – then how far would you like to go back ?- because uillean pipes have been used since the start of the 18th century! If this era is still not traditional enough for you – well then , may i suggest you invest in a club and some fur loin cloths for future gatherings! Authentic !

   @piagulf You’re Irish and don’t even know that Bagpipes, or more correctly “War-Pipes” originated in Ireland. It’s sad that you don’t even know you’re own history but this is typical of the modern Irish.

   I’ve never been to an irish wedding with bagpipes. Bagpipes aren’t even irish – uillean pipes ( played with the elbow) are irish , with a totally different sound! Also, shamrocks on the wedding cake? Oh God how vile- any irish person would cringe at that. Sorry , this is not in the least bit how an irish wedding would be – and I’m born and bred in ireland – so I should know ! Anyone looking to plan an irish wedding – this video is way off !
